One Word for Everyone Raising Money

The single-label .fund is a blank check for the business of asking for money. Unlike .bank, which is gated and verified, or .finance, which reads like a sector term, 'fund' works as a verb. You don't need to be a hedge fund to use it; you need to be raising capital. The registry, Binky Moon, LLC, operates under the umbrella of a larger domain portfolio company, but the TLD itself has been open to anyone since its April 2014 delegation. That means a crowdfunding campaign, a grant-seeking nonprofit, or a startup pitching a pre-seed round can all claim the same extension, which is exactly what makes it versatile.

A Budget Extension With a Premium Hangover

Pricing for .fund tells a story of a TLD that hasn't quite found its footing. Among the 44 registrars carrying it, there's an extreme spread — the cheapest option, Sav, runs about a tenth of the most expensive $115.49. That kind of gap suggests a mix of promotional prices and idle speculation about future demand. For a domain that's essentially descriptive, the effective price to renew can be a surprise without shopping around. The average $45.51 lands it in budget territory, but only with comparison. Otherwise, you could be paying a premium for a word that's still generic.

The Finance Cluster: Siblings in the Same 2012 Class

.fund came out of ICANN's 2012 New gTLD program, same as its finance-flavored siblings like .finance, .financial, .money, and .capital. Where that family diverges is regulation. .bank locked itself down with strict eligibility and security checks, while .fund stayed open. That's a meaningful trade-off: a closed TLD like .bank signals trust; an open one like .fund signals convenience. For a real fund, the open field means defending your name against anyone else who wants it — and there's no registry-level vetting to stop them.
